About Me
Thank you for visiting my shop!
I'm Karen and I began sewing in high school, making some of my own clothes. Later I became interested in quilting and counted cross stitch. My mother made quilts for family use so I learned how she made them. I bought a counted cross stitch kit--one too hard for a beginner!--and gave up. Mom finished that one and others for me. I bought easier kits and with time I'd now tackle almost any kit. I completed one with 55,000 stitches in it. I'd never sell that one!
I thank Mom for teaching me these hobbies. It has enabled me to give some great gifts and enjoy my free time. I have never been bored in retirement! Mom continued stitchin’ through her entire life. She loved showing grandchildren what she was doing.
I've been making quilts and completing counted cross stitch pieces over 25 years. At first for family or as gifts/donation. My first quilts were tied with yarn to hold the three layers together and I used cotton muslin as the middle layer. Before long I began taking the quilts to a professional quilter who had a quilting frame to stitch the three layers together. That is not inexpensive so about 7 years ago I bought a long arm quilting frame to finish the quilting process myself on almost all of my quilts.
For a period of 3 years between being at my mother's house until my recent move to Tennesse I didn't have access to my quilting frame but I continued making quilt tops. During that time I also continued to complete counted cross stitch pieces. I now find that I have a real inventory of works. I decided to set up an on-line store to sell these and future quilts and counted cross stitch that I complete.
I enjoy selecting quilt designs or designing my own pattern. Even more, I enjoy
identifying fabrics and colors to be used. My hope is to create comfortable and enjoyable quilts that are meant to be used on a couch or in an easy chair; on a bed as added warmth or decor at the foot of the bed; or on a quilt rack as room decor. I hope my counted cross stitch is of something that is meaningful to someone, adds joy, or adds beauty to a room in a home.
